This is just an entry testing out the iPhone App foe WordPress. I had to upgrade the site in order to use this App, but everything seems to be fine.

Now I can update while on the road, if I can get this keyboard down pat.

The Picture is just a test as well. It is Aiden petting a goat on a friends farm.

Enjoy!!!!!

John Henry Days Update – 2008

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

The weather was great this year for the 2008 John Henry Days Festival held in Talcott, West Virginia. Tempertures were in the High 80’s to Low 90’s and the Sun had little resistance as sun-block lotion was the product of the day. It could not have been better.

Breakfast at the RhodesJoyce and Ranny had their yearly breakfast feast with a large turn-out. Lots of folks came by to enjoy the great food and company. The breakfast was really good and concluded around the start of the parade, which worked out really well, noone missed any of the parade because of the food. I didn’t take any pictures of the parade this year as I forgot my camera. The few photos I did take were from my cell phone, I have requested from a few folks to send some of their pictures to me so I can create a photo Gallery for this years JHD Festival. The parade seemed a little shorter this year, when compared to 2007, but enjoyable none the less. One missing entry into the parade this year was the Talcott High School graduating class of 1968. John Henry Days Concert - 2008It is our 40th anniversary and Yes, this was the year that I finally finished high school. We were supposed to ride in the parade this year but it just didn’t happen. We are planning our reunion for later this year, maybe we can have our own parade.
I also attended the concert that is held at the Great Bend Tunnel every year. A band by the name of ‘Subway’ played and was very good. They also played the concert last year in 2007. A lot of attendees mentioned that Subway’s performance was better last year, I tend to agree. There was, none the less, a lot of dancing going on and everyone seemed to have a good time. The band played mostly golden oldies. After the band completed their performance, around 9:30PM, the sky came alive with a very nice fireworks display.

Ashley and Jason One nice suprise this year was seeing Miss Ashley Buckland. As we all know Ashley is Darrell’s third child and resides in Myrtle Beach, SC.Darrell and daughter Ashley It has been a long time since she has visited WV and it was sure nice seeing her. She and her friend Jason made the trip and they seemed to have a good time, so we may see them back again soon. Thanks for coming Ashley, it was good seeing you and meeting Jason. You are more than welcome to come back next year.

Lots of other folks, both friends and family, came to attend the festival from near and far. Hopefully, as time progresses and the event gathers more of a following there will be even more. This is just one persons take on what took place at the 2008 John Henry Days Festival, so feel free to comments on what interested you and what you would like to see improved. Maybe we can present our thoughts to the committee that makes this happen.

Enjoy !!!!
